External Audio Connectors
Part Number: 6001503Creative Labs Audio PCI 128D Digital Sound Card
Audio out jack – The green jack is a stereo line-level output. The combined signal of all internal and external studio sources on the board outputs through here. It can be connected to one-eighth of an inch stereo headphones or amplified speakers.

Audio in jack – The black or blue jack is a stereo line-level input, which accepts a one-eighth of an inch stereo plug. It can be used as a source for digital sound recording, a source to be mixed with the output, or both.
Microphone input jack – The red or pink jack is a one-eighth of an inch jack providing mono input. It can be used as a source for digital sound recording, a source to be mixed with the output, or both.

Chipset
Part Number: 6001503Creative Labs Audio PCI 128D Digital Sound Card
Creative's new chipset uses breakthrough technology to take full advantage of the PCI bus architecture, while maintaining compatibility with older legacy software. Legacy game compatibility was originally an issue when considering a PCI-based sound card solution. The issue was that existing software and games for the computer had been designed to run on ISA-based sound cards. To function properly, those cards must write directly to the inherently slow ISA DMA controller. These signals are not present on the PCI bus. This allows legacy software to function as if the ISA signals are present, while using the faster speed of the PCI bus

Codec chip
Part Number: 6001503Creative Labs Audio PCI 128D Digital Sound Card

The codec chip is used in compressing and decompressing audio signals for use by the sound card.
